It took me about 6 hours(non stop) to finish reading.I loved it and hated it:)Loved it because it was totally different and hated that so many things were left unsaid.
Now,I'm not disappointed with Adria-Riaz paring, because I think that their relationship is even more special for the lack of the mating bond. You see, he CHOSE her,he didn't have to,but he did cause he loves her that much:)But,honestly I could barely follow their story,I was so immersed in all the mysteries
Then,Ghost...I read every book at least 5 times hopping that I will figure out who he is,but-nothing.Kaleb is a strong possibility,as I think he has all the necessary characteristics. He fits better than anyone else, but then again it may be just a front to trow readers of the track. But,the Ghost has to be someone who is if not famous, than rather well known-there are several comments that support that,so Vasic is out of the run.One of the Counselors is the best bet.
The biggest mystery(for me)is the identity of Kaleb's 'HER'. I don't think she can be one of the Enrique's experiments cause she is heavily guarded, and has been for at least 8 years. Before Enrique's death no one knew that he was a killer, and none of the other Counselors are interested in his experiments enough to continue them. Also,I don't see how it could be Sahara. The timing doesn't fit,as she disappeared maybe 7 years before events in this book.
All in all, interesting, wonderful and very, very frustrating :)I simply adore it!But on the down side,I have no idea what I'm going to do while waiting for the next book :(
P.S.If there are mistakes in spelling or semantics,I'm sorry,English is not my first language.

Hi Nalini; just wanted to tell you that it is an awesome world you have created. In Tangle of Need you revisited some favs and introduced some interesting new characters, can't wait to read what happens next...now for an unreasonable request...write more and faster, please. LOL

The mating bond I think if you seal the deal and accept the bond then that’s it. But if you don’t enter the mating dance, don’t seal the bond then you get a second chance. Look at Hawke, he knew Rissa was his mate but they never entered the dance because they were too young, he lost her and didn’t want to open himself up to that pain again so refused to let Sienna that deep until it was the only way to save her, He had to accept the bond to make Sienna his mate. Females get the final say but Sienna had already accepted him it was him holding back which why the bond snapped into place the moment he made his choice.
As for Riaz and Adria I hope the bond will grow into mating bond. But even if it doesn’t they’ll have a bond of their own and kids. "Beat of Temptation" in An Enchanted Season = Nate’s parents weren’t mates so we know that non-mated couples can have kids. If you could only have kids with your mate the Changeling population would be very small.

I agree with Kaleb being the Ghost – a) one of the most lethal beings in the entire PsyNet, b) He’s connected to the DarkMind, the “evil” twin of the NetMind, c) determined to one day control the PsyNet, d) He has his own agenda like the Ghost.
I think the mysterious woman he’s been searching for is a swan, all the clues point to it. I read someone pointed to Kristine Lauren she’s dead threw herself off a bridge remember. Though most seem to point to Faith’s sister, Sahara who disappeared 5 years ago at age 16 as of VoH, - I just can’t see him with a Psy, they wouldn’t be able to melt him, to make him care.

I think she needs to do maybe two more pairing books in the Snowdancer pack to even out how many were done with DarkRiver. I want a book on Kenji/Garnet (Jem), and find some mates for Matthias and Alexei, and I’m curious about who Cooper and his submissive mate, Grace. We’ve only had really one about the Shine Foundation (The Forgotten), I wanna read about Tag and Tiara. See some more of Nikita and her E heritage.

My favs in Order…
Kiss of Snow (Hawke/Sienna)
Slave to Sensation (Sacha/Lucus)
Stroke of Enticement (Nate/Tammy)
Branded by Fire (Riley/Mercy)
Blaze of Memory (Katya/Dev)
Bonds of Justice (Sophie/Max)
Hostage to Pleasure (Dorian/Ashaya)
Caressed by Ice (Judd/Brenna)
Play of Passion (Indigo/Drew)
I’m not a big fan of Visions of Heat (Vaughn/Faith) or Mine to Possess (Clay/Tally).
"Whisper of Sin" in Burning Up didn’t really do anything for me, it was nice but… shrug.
Lara and Walker got in the way a bit in Kiss of Snow but it wouldn’t have worked quiet as well if they been in their own story.

Can’t wait to see who Nalini writes about next.

Finished the book a few hours ago. I was so excited to read this book as all the other Psy Changeling books, and wow am I feeling let down.

As others have stated, this felt like it wasn't Really Riaz and Adria's book, because of all the back and forth between all the other characters. Of course I loved seeing how Hawke/Sienna and Mercy/Riley were doing, but I really could have done without reading so much about Aen/Vasic/Kaleb/everyone else. A few pages here and there (as in the previous books) is fine, but it REALLY went over what I felt was appropriate for this story.

And the biggest issue....ugh THE NO MATING BOND! I feel bad for Riaz and Adria and hope they get the mating bond. Honestly, what was the reason to even have a book without the mating bond? For a plot point or something? Because I just don't get it. As others have said, all the other books with Changelings had mating bonds and we read how SPECIAL AND WONDERFUL a mating bond was in the previous books, so to read this book and know that in the end of the stroy there actually was not going to be a bond in place was so disappointing.

I'm hoping there won't be anymore books with Changelings without mating bonds.

I loved the book; was not at all disappointed with romance between Riaz and Adria. Keep in mind that we do not know what Nalini's vision for this series is, we can only speculate. There must be a reason behind their not having a mating bond; I trust her vision and believe all will be explained eventually. Loved Hawke and Sienna and all the others. I too believe that Kaleb is searching for Sahara. Hope the next book is about Kaleb. It's way too long until next year but hopefully Nalini will drop us a hint here and there.

Hi folks - I want to say a big thank you to you all for respecting my request and keeping the discussion on track.

After much thought, I did go back and delete a particular thread of comments/responses. This is a post that will be active for a long time and I didn't want negative energy on the blog.

Unfortunately, I had to delete some comments that were relevant to the discussion, but that included a quote from a previous inappropriate comment, so I'm sorry about that. However that only affected two or three comments, so the discussion is otherwise as it was.

Happy chatting!

At first I couldn't really concentrate because of the back and forth between Adria/Riaz and then Sienna/ Hawke and the other couples. It was almost like A & R were a subplot in their own story... Having said that, I really loved the bits of that we got to read of the other couples. It was good to see Sienna and Hawke learn to be a couple.

As for Kaleb *sigh* I was under the impression that he was the ghost, but I really don't think that any more. Like someone else pointed out, his plan is too big to concentrate on giving Judd all the help the ghost has. And, also I believe it'd be too obvious.
I think I recall a scene in one of the books (sorry, can't recall specifically which one - may be KoS), that Kaleb was just the caregiver of the place he has in Moscow - which has intrigued me. Who would Kaleb care about or respect enough that he would go to that trouble?
The idea of the 'her' Kaleb was looking for and found being Sahara, kind of makes sense. She went completely missing - odd thing to happen in a society of telepathically enabled people - and her last name, NightStar. Kaleb is always fiddling with that star.... It's curious.
I don't believe Kaleb is as silent as he or anyone else believes - he fiddles with the star, he kept the star which smacks of sentimentality...not the acts of someone who cannot feel anything.
I don't know if I think he's looking for the swan that went missing... It's possible that Enrique coerced Kaleb to do something to the girl which is what fractured his control at the time... I don't see how or why a changeling would be trapped so extensively by the psy, at the begining of the series they were considered inconsequential...
The thought of Kaleb having a twin is interesting but...it'd be weird, I don't believe there's been reference to multiple births in the psynet - has there?

I think the ghost is someone who has been hiding in plain sight - it has to be or it wouldn't seem authentic.

I don't mind the idea of m/m, but I do agree that, given the nature of the series, it'd have to be a subplot. Having said that, I really, really badly want Vasic and Aden to have WHOLE novels dedicated to them, so I hope they have f/m HEAs.

Nikita and Anthony - half of me is cackling because it seems ludicris but the other half is like, well okay sure. They're both in unique positions of power, neither of them fully silent. It'd be interesting to see if they even realise there is a relationship happening between them or not...

I really want a Psy/Psy storyline, perhaps with one very silent and the with negliable silence. It'd be an interesting dynamic I think.

I don't know about the BlackSea changelings....it is a bit eerie. I would like to have seen more land based changelings first, seeing as that's been the focus of the series. I think the introduction of water-based changelings, like that of air-based changelings, interesting but I like my earthbased ones. I like the culture created there, I'm comfortable there....don't know if the world is ready to plum the dark, dank depths of the sea....

NALINI, so bummed I got deleted. Thought I was being nice...

My guesses for the next books:

12- Kaleb and Sahara. Main Enemy, Shoshanna because she's the Psy that has been holding Sahara. Someone on GR reminded me of a thought Henry had about Shoshanna keeping an F-Psy and she is powerful enough in and out of the Net to accomplish this. I'm ready for Kaleb to be a good guy.

13- Aden and Zaire or Lily. Main Enemy, Tatiana because she is going after the Human Alliance, stationed mainly in Venice. When I think Venice I think Zaire or Lily. (Not Lisette because I'd prefer she not exist). Either pairing would be interesting. Arrow/Arrow or Arrow/Human would be a great read.

14- Vasic (aka The Ghost) and a Snow Dancer maternal. Main Enemy, Ming. I think it will take all the good guys working together to take down Ming and whatever nastiness he delivers. I'd really like a kind, loving maternal for Vasic. Someone that will love his protectivness and not damaged. I think he will be broken enough for the two of them.

Finally, after finishing the e-book released on the 7th I'm able to join the conversation after having read all the posts days ago.
Yes, I admit I was sad that those two don't get a mating bond, and yes, there is the danger that one Lisetts husband dies, or Adria meets her mate (which is unlikely from what we have heard of Riaz conversation with the old librarian) they could break apart. But, it's a Nalini Singh book, so it's not gonna happen, I think with the mating rules not beeing so strikt as they used to be, and Adria accepting her dominant maturnity persona (like someone has already pointed out), it's a good possibility that they're gonna be mated one day (hopefully Nalini will write it out in one of the future books).

I'm also glad we got to see more of the other cuples, especially Sienna and Hawke. Even though sometimes it was weird having diversions from the main plotline. But whatever, if I get to see more of the best cuple, and Kaleb and the arrows, I'm in it.

Which brings me to my next comment. The question about the books that are yet to come. Someone said 2-3. Theres gonna be a book about Kaleb (and despite the ending I'm not sure it's gonna be the next, cuz like we've seen in this book, you can stretch the happening in one of the storylines pretty thin). Other males who deserve a story are Vasik, Adam and Ghost (since there's no way we know he's one of the former, I treat him as an individual as for now). It's the females I am not yet sure about. Alice for sure, and the misterious "her".
Maybe Kenji and Jem get a sidestory like Walker and Lara.

Also having read the discussion about "her"'s identity, I tend to think she's one of Eniques captives, and that he's the one who built the psychic cave around her and instructed the guards to keep her that way even after his death. But it seems she's a psy, that's why I don't think "her" is the changeling from blacksea, even though Enrique could have changed her mind like he did with Brenna, what value would she have for Kaleb? She would be broken after so many years on confinement. The same with Faiht's missing cousin Sahara. I mean, if he needs an F-psy, couldn't he easily kidnap one, fake her death? I know Anthony would be suspicious, but it's not impossible for Kaleb to pull it off. That's why I think the misterious "her" is someone entirely different. Someone he needs for his big plan.
And as far as we know, he's plan includes the Arrow squad, a funktioning PsyNet and "her". I'm dying to find out what his materplan is.

I actually didn't mind that Riaz and Adria weren't mated. I could tell how much they were into each other :). Would have loved to see more of Lucas, Sacsha and Naya though >:(

Anonymous said...

I've got an out there theory that maybe the one Kalebs looking for is actually Sienna's Mum. Maybe they faked her death and then put her on physic lockdown so that even Judd and walker couldn't track her.... Just a thought? Nikki

Anonymous said...

Just went back and reread Bonds of Justice. There's a part near the end when Kaleb kills Bonner, the murderer who kidnapped Sophie. He looks at his star charm and says "for you."

Another quote: "for the one person who he knew better than anyone else on this earth, and yet could not teleport to..."

He's been trying to find "her" for over 6 years. THen he flashes back to a woman's eyes begging for mercy. It seems probable that the "her" is someone that Enrique tortured.

I think I must be one of the only people here who was actually GLAD that Riaz and Adria didn't mate! My main reason is that now that we're so far into the series it was getting just a tad predictable. If there's a changeling involved the mating bond will happen. Where's the suspense in that? All throught the series we have been told that Changelings can only have children when they are mated 'or in a long term stable relationship'. Therefore it's always been canon that mating isn't the 'only way', I'm glad that we finlly get to see one of these relationships. Yes, Riaz previously recognising another woman as his mate was an obstruction but lets step back and look at that. We have also always been told that the female has to accept the bond. BUT, never once has it been said that if they did not the male would spend the rest of his life alone. When Mercy was agonising about accepting Riley she didn't once worry about dooming Riley to spending the rest of his life alone or destroying his life. Neither did Indigo. So the impression I always got was that if the bond was rejected it wasn't the end of the line. It was painful, of course it was painful, but after a while they'd get over it and move on. Nothing was really set in stone until the bond was accepted on both sides. I always read that 'the wolf only chooses once' thing as dominant males being stubborn (with a dash of 'old wives tale) and I was glad when Hawke annd Sienna proved me right.
So anyway, that's my take on the lack of Mating bond. I think, as far as changelings are concerned it's a bonus when it's there, but it's not the only kind of stable relationship possible.

As for the Ghost, I still think it's Kaleb. ToN hasn't changed that opinion, and this this time it's not so much because of what happened in the book as because of how the book was structured. Kaleb got so much face time and we hardly saw the Ghost at all! Given that we should have been seeing him doing all sorts of things as the war heated up, but didn't, I'm inclined believe that he was sharing 'face time' with Kaleb.
And while I have been considering the Swan Theory (in fact it was the first theory I had, as soon as we learned he was looking for someone) I'm still currently inclined to believe he's been looking for his mother or a sister.

Stephanie.P said...

Also, in answer to those who think the Ghost is Vasic. Given how close Vasic and Aden are, and given that we now know that Aden is a very strong and 'subtle' telepath, I do not think it would be possible for Vasic to be the Ghost without Aden knowing. If Aden knew, he would help. He and Vasic are a team. The Ghost would have no need for Judd or the priest.

And always, most telling for me, is Judds immediate knowledge that 'Kaleb didn't order the hit'. How would he know that, why would he assume that, if he didn't already know Kaleb was the Ghost?

Stephanie.P said...

Hold the Phone! I take it all back!
It's not his mother and it's not his sister.
The house that does not belong to him, that he's holding in trust for the person he's looking for.... The balcony has no railing!
'She' is the Swan!

Enrique turned Brenna into a kind of artificial Psy. And it was starting to send her kind of crazy before Judd stepped in and started leeching off the overload. This swan had the same thing happen, which enabled Enrique to plug her into the PsyNet, but without the help she went nuts, hence the the padded cell. Enrique did refer to what he was doing as experiments on test subjects. What if the Swan was his 'major work'. He'd experiment on the other changelings and then implement the results on her....

Yep that works!

And because the only way Kaleb will be able to help her will be to open himself up to her as Judd did with Brenna, he'll have to let her in! Cue romance.

I've also got a feeling Keenan and Noor will be needed to help fix the Damage. Possibly they may help with Alice's memory loss too...

Oh good. I'm not so bothered by the cliffhanger now!

Enrique IS dead, so who is hiding the swan. From ToN there were guards involved mentally and physically. I don't suspect the Psy work for free and whoever is hiding her will be at the recieving end of Kaleb's wrath no doubt but would need the resources to keep a prisoner for a beneficial purpose.

I also don't think Enrique was very intetested in keeping his test subjects alive.

I really love that each couple has it's own unique bond, not just some different wrapping around the same story, same bond, ... and the fact that they really have a CHOICE. the mating bond is a possibility, but not a MUST.

I think the next book will be about the preparations and team-work of all races to wipe ming of the planet. new bonds possible between all races, all factions, and new couples as well :) looking forward to all of that ;-)

as to kaleb's she: everything's possible there ;-) with lots of false trails laid out by Nalini possible as well (sneaky ;))
Is Kaleb's second kardinal ability the A-Typ? as being Anchor just like Santano enrique was? maybe they had experimented with psy before changelings and this "SHE" is one of those earlier experiments? Santano hid her and those guards still continue their job even Santano is dead?

Would the Arrow Squad be holding someone hostage like that? I don't think so.

she could also be an pet F-Psy held by Shoshanna or Ming or Tatjana.

are the Ghost (whoever he is) and Kaleb after that same "she"?

I am sooo looking forward to who's working together to get Ming erased!!

get your minds working and tell your guesses :-)

Stephanie.P said...

In ToN Kaleb believes that no one ALIVE knows that he'd be looking for her, which implies that the person who originally hid her was dead.
I think that Ming has her. That psychic prison she was in sounds very similar to what he did to Katya Haas. Probably he found her while the councillors were cleaning up Enriques mess, before Kaleb became a councillor and gained the resources he has now. Ming's the sort of guy who would see a Changeling with no shields and who's been made into an artificial Psy as something to be studied, and he has the resources to put those guards there.

Personally I found the parts without Riaz and Adria to be the best part of the book. I admit maybe I was conflicted about them from the beginning since I had assumed that Adria was married to martin and that she was Riaz mate. So when I read in an early review that they that wasn't so, it might have given me a bad attitude towards the book. However I always thoguht that by the end of the book that they would form the mating bond/ Personally if I was Adria I would always feel second best and wouldn't have considered deeping the relationship. I just was not invested in the couple, so I skipped most of the Riaz/Adria storyline when i reread the book. I too thought that the pupcubs was so funny.
I TOTALLY AGREE the cliffhanger at the end was totally unfair and Nalini should be dunked into a barrel of water until she gives up the ending. ()

Wow I abso LOVED this Book! I thought Kiss of Snow was fantastic and wasn't expecting Riaz and Adria's book to be on the same level, but Nalini has done it again...10/10 marks for her fantastic effort.
I've loved reading some of the comments and I’d like to add my won 2 pence worth...
I loved Adria and Riaz romance and going into the book we all knew that theirs wasn't going to be a mating bond, but does it really matter? Love is Love right?! and this man sure loved this women, and not only loved her but willingly turned his back on his Mated lady cos at the end of the day he recognised that Lisette was just a possibility but Adria and her Love was actual reality..I loved how Nalini put it into clever perspective for us using the 2 old timers to illustrate endless 'Human' love *sigh*. As Dalton hinted as they remain and grow together who knows if the mating bond doesn't form naturally??
I also loved seeing the continuation into the Psy civil war and all the characters that are to play a big part of it...Vasic, Aden Kaleb all need to prepare themselves for a bumpy ride with Ms Singh at the controls and I know I'll be eagerly anticipating their stories (I'm convinced that Nalini would not mention them all so frequently and then just short change her readers by not giving us their books).
Hawke and Sienna *sigh*Loved the loved up pair and seeing how married life is suiting them was brilliant, as is Riley and Mercy's happy and joyful news* ahhhh so cute*
And as for unanswered questions like who is the Ghost? Who is the mysterious woman Kaleb is searching for? What secrets does Alice hold? And why have Ben and Marlee fallen out? Well my brain hurts too much to try and figure it all out (this is when I'd love the have F-Psy powers ;0)..) I’ll just wait for the next instalments and let Nalini's imagination spark mine.
Nalini thanks you for a fantastic read, and keep writing please! Never stop! I've invested too much into this world to start having withdrawals symptoms now.

Hi,

I have to say the excerpt of Tangel of need was the reason I started the series and I absolutely loved the book. Although I think the first part was to much of Hawke and Sienna ..

beside Reily and Mercy (whom I absolutely loved in this book - especially when they find out she is pregnant :-) )they are my favorite couple.

I would really like it when the two of them get their mating bond and I think they will. But maybe it is too early for them at this moment ... at this moment Riaz (Wolf and man) has choosen Adria and I think the bond just needs time to form ... please Nalini tell me I am right

thanks a lot for this book! I am really looking forward to the next one

Nalini, thank you for another wonderful - addictive - book in this series!! I have to confess that the first time I read ToN I was initially sorely disappointed in the lack of mating bond and what I felt was a lukewarm relationship between Adria and Riaz (I too thought she would always believe she was second best) - while also openly enjoying seeing Hawke and Sienna's relationship post-mating; the oh-so-sweet news for Mercy and Riley (pupcubs! drunk-Riley! hungover-Hawke!); the continuing play between Drew and Indy... so many good bits!! But the Adria and Riaz thing really bothered me because I didn't want to be disappointed and couldn't believe that Nalini hadn't delivered. So after I dipped into the comments above, I waited a week for my thoughts to settle and then dived back into ToN for another read. This time, with the patience to let their story unfold at its own quiet, quiet pace. And oh-my-goodness did I get it after that! Their story was so raw and painful, and watching them let their guard down and their love grow was achingly beautiful. I think the mating bond will come for them in time (I want to believe); and I like the way that part reinforced what happened with Hawke & Sienna.

Other theories:
I still think Kaleb is the Ghost even though I flip-flop on that. The Marshall theory does fit and would be a clever twist(?!).

I think the 'she' is the Swan - Stephanie P you are a genius for pointing out the lack of balcony (not to mention Swan Lake! ha!) - but I can't explain away why he'd be tracking her in the PsyNet if she is a changeling. In that regard, Sahara makes more sense.

But that's it for me for theorising: it simply does my head in!

So I will wait impatiently to see how it all plays out in the end and hope that Nalini will indulge us all by re-visiting our favourite characters periodically afterwards with tie-in books (pretty please). I'll be in that queue!!

Now, back to Branded by Fire... Again. :-P

first i think vasic geets with alice, why else were they mentiond so much unless was a lead in for next story. kaleb is the ghost,Judd knows who the ghost is he told hawke his identity. ghost cant be anthony he was contacted by the ghost. think marshal was killed so that anthony would be on the council. the ghost has one connection kaleb just found that girl.for the people who thought anthony and nikita should get together dont you think a lead in of nikitas pregnancy with sascha would be good. how could nikita carry a cardinal empath inside her and not be affected. we saw this in the connection sascha has with her baby in the womb.

Nalini's books have already been in hardback, starting with Kiss of Snow and now Tangle of Need. I get the feeling that they are going to all be harbacks?

Yes, it is disappointing paying 3X the price of a regular paperback, but I guess it is the pubisher's choice. Love Nalini, but I borrowed this book. $25 is alot of money to me, and even with the kindle price of $13, I feel I would be an idiot paying that much for something electronic.

Hi to all,

I just read Tangle of need the second time and I loved it even more. I think I have an explanation now on the mate subject and hope you find it as satisfying as I do:

I think there can't be only one mate because every person is changing during his/her life. Like your own life and the changes which happens in them and with your partner.

Hawke explained it really good in hin conversation with Riaz on that topic:
He said he would be a different person if Rissa would have lived. So therefore each possible mate is exactly that ... a possibility.
take Riley: maybe his perfect mate would have been a submissive if that thing with Brenna would not have happened. But now he needs a strong woman like Mercy (and they are for me the perfect match)
the same with Riaz: Lisette would have been a possibility but after what happened (means her being married) Adria is the perfect match ... I think the mating bond will happen between Adria and Riaz, its just needs time to adjust

I hope Nalini will write it down so that we can join the experience

hope it helps the disappointed sector a little bit.

Nalini, thanks again!

one more thing: I hope the next book is about Jem ... I would love to read her story after what was teasered at Hawkes and Siennas Mating Ceremony!

Thanks to the people who sent me their suggestions for the YouTube cast video. I got my Kaleb and the video is up as of today under Momstheteacher, yay! I even got Kenji and Jem in there. Thanks again!

I find that Ilona Andrews has created an very interesting world with Kate Daniels & Edge series of books. My sis & I like them second to Nalini's

Christine Feehans Dark & Drake Sisters are fun, plus she has a lepoard series in the bayou/jungles (fun!)

Does anyone else get the feeling that Alexei's story will be the next book? Afterall, he was mentioned a lot, and they are bringing some of the pack up there to train or whatnot...

Doesn't anybody want to read Kenji's and Jem's story? Maybe a novella...?

:-)

I loved, loved, loved the Hawke/Sienna parts but I was disapointed she was on birth control. I hope she and Hawke have a baby before the series end.

I want Teijan's story. A novella for the rat alpha might be good. Unless she plans a book for him...not sure how well that would work, but if anyone can do it Nalini can. Gotta love that rat guy!

I know many of you are disappointed that Riaz and Adria did not have the mating bond. However, in all of the stories to date, I don't recall another couple who expresses the depths of their love more openly than these two. Perhaps it's because there isn't a mating bond, but I think that this story had to be written. Nathan's parents were married without the bond and though it ended in tragedy, I think we had to have at least one story where it was possilbe for a changeling couple to love without the bond. Personally, I don't think they're settling. Riaz's mate didn't want him, so he moved on. What else was he supposed to do?

All I can say is this: I wish I had someone to love me like Riaz loves Adria!

Acerogamma said...

Riaz settled for Adria. He didn't have a choice because his mate didn't want him. His first choice was his mate, since that didn't work out he had to move on and was lucky to find a kindred spirit in Adria. She was still his second choice. That is the definition of settling. Not getting what you want so having to get something else.

You know, the thing is that there are other couples in the series without a mating bond and it was ok. We were fine with Dev and Katya, and with Max and Sophia. The reason is that they were not changeling. But for the changelings, it's a whole different story, because there IS the mating bond which IS the ultimate relationship for them. We know that there are other relationships without the bond that work for changelings in their world.

The thing is that when I am reading a romance novel, I want to read about the ultimate relationship a couple can have. For the psy or human couples, that is true love. For the changelings, it's mating. Anything less than that, while still beautiful, is not the best they can get. I want the characters that I become emotionally invested in to have the best, the ultimate, the happiest ending possible.

Yes, Riaz loves Adria. It is a beautiful relationship. But it is not the best they can have. So I really hope they eventually get the mating bond. Otherwise it will continue to be a dissapointment.

TON was a great book, IMO. I loved all the updates on the other characters, but the Riaz/Adria really opened up more of pack life than we'd seen before.

Personally, I think Kaleb is the Ghost. I think that's why Judd works so hard not to see his face. Why would he worry about knowing Vasic was a rebel? And Kaleb "Ghosting" around Hawke & Sienna's mating to learn more about why Judd considers the pack his people now, was just a hoot.

I think Sahara, Faith's cousin is the person Kaleb found and I think Shoshanna Scott is the one who kidnapped and damaged her - Henry wondered if she had a pet F-Psy in KOS, and we don't know what Shoshanna's Psy designation is.

I hope Vasic gets paired with Alice, since she knew Zaid personally, and both Vasic and Zaid are/were Tk-V. Aden, maybe with Rina, Kit's sister

Acerogamma said...

I like those two possible pairings. Aden and Rina would work well, and Vasic and Alice could heal each other. I hope Kaleb's book comes soon, and the cliffhanger at the end of TON indicates that it may be the case. I can't wait until she announces the next book. I am also looking forward to who would be the last novella in the anthology coming out.

I felt very cheated by the lack of mating bond. In Nate and Tammy's story Nate had a hang up because his parents were not mated and that the lack of bond was shown to be a definite negative. I am in the minority but Hawke and Sienna were too much. I would have loved to catch up on all the others like Clay and Talley and see how the net crisis is affected Max and his J since the net is whole and healthy where it merges at her connection.

Here's my question, Hawk told Riaz that the woman has to accept the mating bond.. But Lisette didn't, she's in love with her husband, so Riaz was never mated. Why couldn't he and Adria mate?

Acerogamma said...

I think he still can...if Nalini allows it. Their wolves are already more than half way there. I just hope she relents and just let them have their mating bond.

Hey everyone loved the new book altho I was wondering, isn;t Sienna Marlee's cousin because in Chapter 9 in Tangle of Need it refers to their relationship as niece wich isnt the case since sienna mum was walkers sister right?

Acerogamma said...

Sienna is Marlee's cousin. That may have been a whoopsie. Marlee is Walker's daughter and Walker is Sienna's uncle, so yep cousins is right.

Few things I noticed rereading...

I am not bothered by the lack of bond because it was mentioned earlier some bonds take years to take place. Not all married chanlings are bonded at the beginning. Give it time to develope as she has other story lines.

Wasn't it kaleb who there was mention of a swan girl child and he very early in the series. Changelings have shields. It could be her. Could be he developed an attachment and his former trainer hid her to use her as leverage. I can see a young swan girl carrying a star.

Vasic I think can't be trusted because he is suicidal. In a previous book he mentions wanting to rest and being told he didn't have the right until the murdered victems were honored. Or something like that. Too tired to look it up. He might take out some bad guys with him but he's definitely suicidal and about to break.

Nikita is obviously not silent. Nor has ever been I think. She just buries it well. To protect her daughter which makes me wonder about her and faiths dad who also is likely not fully silent.

I'm thinking the ghost is no one we have met or if so is a more minor person mentioned. Perhaps faiths brother. Itspossible it is kaleb but i I think he's just too powerfully already without adding that. Whoever it is met sienna at age 15 so it's not Aden who saw her first as a child. It could be vasic who is that cold and we don't know all the side powers a traveler has. Being tied close to the net might be one of his powers much like a tk. Plus the ghost did mention caring about one person. And he does care for Aden.

It seems everyone has forgotten that since Riaz is Lisette's mate, then he's not Adria's mate, her true mate is somewhere out there. So now how can they have that bond, even if they spend years together?

Mating is not a choice like marriage, as Lucas has stated in StS. So Riaz or any of the changeling, can't just zap the person of their choice with the mating bond.

Mint said...

personally, I'm very satisfied with Tangle.
Seeing Hawke and Sienna settling into their joined lives together are the best parts for me. I'm so happy to see more of Riley and Mercy too, as well as the other couples.

The exhilarating part came with Kaleb's dual cardinal abilities. That scene is just simply...Wow!

As for Adria and Riaz...their non mating fits all the mating rules as I understand them. The message of their story is about second chances, that love without the bond is possible. So if they suddenly mate later, what on earth were the angst in Tangle for?

I am curious to see who the next books main couple will be. So happy for Riley and Mercy.
One thing that confuses me is the mating bond. Why is it that Lucas and Sascha and the other cat and Psy couplings can have a bond. Mercy and Riley cat and wolf. Judd (who I adore)and Brenna Psy and wolf. These couples (and some others) can bond, where they intended all along to mate. Hawke and Sienne bonded, so was Rissa suppose to be his only true mate. And the bonds is not set in stone so to speak. Since Riaz and Adria are in love and he and Lisette do not want to mate. Why can't Riaz and Adria have a bond? When cat and wolf; cat and Psy; wolf and Psy can bond?

Ragdog said...

I forgot to mention the wolf to wolf bond.
I like this book and want more as always. Can/t wait for the next one and the Walker and Lara novella.

I think the lack of mating bond during ToN doesn't mean that Adria and Riaz won't ever have one. Remember when Riaz punches the wall and runs off, and Hawke comes and finds him?

Quote: Hawke took time to reply. "I've known couples who've been together for years to suddenly develop a mating bond. I've always thought that perhaps the human's choice influences the wolf's, or maybe two people come into perfect sync after that time together-kind of like Indigo and Drew knowing each other for so long before they mated."

To me, this tells me that maybe we will hear more about Riaz and Adria and a later date.

I love the Psy-Changeling series so much. I definitely want to see more of the Arrows in book 12- maybe a female Arrow? I think a powerful mutation that comes from psy descendants would also mix things up even more :) either way I know I'm hooked.

I LOVED this book so much! I liked the romance and Venice is such a beautiful city (and the thought of parts of it under water is awesome). I liked seeing Sienna and hawke again...

But the main reason I loved this book so much was the awesomely intricate main story arc of the series that gets more interesting and mysterious with each book.

And a huge WOW for all scenes that featured Judd,Kaleb, Aden and Vasic (oh how I hope Vasic will survive and be okay and become an all dark and beautiful and arrow-perfect hero ^^).

Im still not sure on who the ghost may be...

And yes, dear awesome Anonymous user above, I would def. also read a spinoff about the amazing crime fightig duo Aden and Vasic ^^ :D

Thabk you for the awesome read, Nalini (and now tell us who the ghost is and if Vasic will be okay?)

Firstly – I love this series. There were a few moments of “Oh no, why would she write that?” But I, as a long time fan, should have more faith in Ms Singh – and have been shown this time and time again.

So having a book based on secondary characters that previously did not feature as prominently as others was a surprise. Then while reading you realise that you have just as much of them as you do Hawke and Sienna and other well-loved characters. This was a little concerning initially as I didn’t want to feel like I’d miss the connection between Riaz and Adria. It wasn’t until I finished the book that I realised that having the two stories side by side actually helped to highlight the deep love, connection and the depth of commitment that Riaz and Adria actually had for each other.

Firstly you have Hawke and Sienna with a mating bond responding to each other with love, understanding, comfort and petting when needed and even surprising each other with such responses. Then you have Riaz and Adria responding with the same deep love, understanding, comfort and petting for each other – all without the mating bond. It helped prove that while yes, the mating bond is what every changeling hopes for, it’s not the be-all-and-end-all either. We are shown time and time again that the characters have a strong attraction first before any mating dance/bond, and while yes, I would like to see Riaz and Adria form the bond at a later stage, it wouldn’t lessen their story if they didn’t end up with one either.

As for Hawke and Sienna – it was all so perfect for me. Kiss of Snow, while being a story of them coming together, had so many other aspects to consider that I felt a little sad that we didn’t get to see them truly relax around each other and their mating. After all, for 10 books we had witnessed their relationship grow and so when you get to see them be a couple in ToN – it was a sweet reward. To see Hawke happy and relaxed – even while discussing baking and knowing his place in the maternal circle was cute. To see Sienna comfortable enough to seek out Hawke and finally feel that the den and the pack is her home and where she finally belongs was also very sweet.

Aden, Vasic - I hope they will be able to adjust and survive the coming events – hopefully with the help of Walker again. I like the fact that we get to see that the Arrows aren’t just puppets and have their own set of rules and morals that they would defend without second thought. There’s something comforting in that I think. Aden stating how Vasic would simply kill any teacher who he found had harmed a child – it shows that they have a deep understanding of each other, and that while they may be viewed as “faulty” for such thoughts, that they know, even if they don’t 100% understand it, what is right and wrong. Not everything is black and white in this world filled with grey.

Kaleb – still so many questions left answered. In fact, the more we read about him, the more questions that arise.

The Ghost – Kaleb? Vasic? Marshall? Some other random? I, for one, am (im)patiently waiting for the “Great Reveal”.

Judd – I’ve recently introduced a friend to the series and explained that the 3rd book is my favourite and that I have actually forgotten how many times I have read it . . . I didn’t want to influence her too much, but her words to me after she had read it were “Judd, yummmmmmmmmmmmm”. Yes, I have been a Judd fan for quite a while, so seeing him being more comfortable with his abilities and his role in the pack really makes this “I <3 Judd” fan happy.

Well done Ms Singh. You are a very talented author and in me you have a guaranteed devoted reader.

Kalebs 'her' has to be somewhere, is Blacksea looking after her, they might realise Kaleb is closing in and think they need help. Hence the approach to Snowdancer.
This series is wonderful, like everyone else I cannot wait for the novella and book 12.

I have to confess I couldn't finish ToN. It H/h relationship didn't engage me at all and what I read felt jumpy or scattered. But with all these posts talking about Kaleb and Psy in the last pages, I feel like I need to go back and at least read those parts.

Heart of Obsidian is definitely Kaleb's book, judging from the chapters Nalini posted. And I think the woman is Sahara Nightstar.

As to the Ghost, just from so many great readers' theories here and elsewhere, I'm thinking that the Ghost may be someone else and that HoO book will be a bridge to developing the Ghost book. So maybe Kaleb and Sahara in HoO and The Ghost next or last book.

I have been waiting sooooo long for Kaleb to take center stage. Just a couple more weeks!
